Atakunmosa High School Alumni Commission New NYSC Lodge in Osun State.
It was a moment of joy, pride, and nostalgia as the 1975 set of Atakunmosa High School, Osu (Atakumosa West LGA, Osun State), officially commissioned a brand–new NYSC lodge for Corps Members serving at their alma mater. The project, driven by a deep sense of gratitude and community spirit, was not only in celebration of the group’s 50th anniversary but also doubled as a heartfelt gift marking the 70th birthday of their President, Chief Lateef A. Bakare. The unveiling ceremony, held at the Atakunmosa High School Hall, was attended by dignitaries, NYSC representatives, community leaders, and well-wishers all united by a shared appreciation for the power of giving back. Representing the Osun State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Fatima Taiwo praised the alumni’s commitment to supporting education and youth development. “The Corps Members were so excited when they heard the news at camp,” she shared. “They truly appreciated the gesture and many wanted to attend the event, but couldn’t because of the swearing-in.” Mrs. Taiwo also acknowledged the positive ripple effect this lodge will have on the NYSC program in the area. “With this kind of support, more Corps Members will be posted to Atakunmosa High School. And if the school ever needs additional hands, a formal request can be made,” she added. For Chief Lateef Bakare, this wasn’t just a ceremonial project it was personal. Reflecting on the journey from a dilapidated, forgotten structure to a modern, welcoming space for young Corps Members, Chief Bakare shared “I saw an opportunity to transform something abandoned into something meaningful. This lodge, made up of two fully equipped flats, is my personal contribution to both our alma mater and the NYSC in honor of my 70th birthday.”
His gesture was met with heartfelt applause and admiration from fellow alumni and attendees, who commended his vision and generosity. Strengthening the School, Supporting the Corps, The school’s principal expressed deep gratitude to the alumni and the NYSC. “This new lodge will not only ease the accommodation challenges for our Corps Members, but it will also motivate them to give their best,” he said.
He also used the opportunity to call on the Osun State Government to provide additional support especially by helping build a perimeter fence to secure the new facility and the school at large. The event brought together an array of respected personalities, including:
•His Royal Highness, Oba Jethro Adegoke Adejola, the Olosu of Osu
•Engr. Oluyemi Oladimeji, Chairman of the occasion
•Chief Oluwabunmi Adeleye, Baamofin of Osu •A representative from the Osun State Ministry of Education
•And many other dignitaries and old students.
Their presence underscored the significance of the occasion and the shared pride in what Atakunmosa High School represents. The commissioning of the NYSC lodge stands as a shining example of how alumni engagement can uplift both education and national service. It’s a reminder that impact doesn’t always come from grand gestures but from purposeful action, shared values, and a commitment to giving back.
Kudos to the Atakunmosa High School Class of 1975 you’ve set a powerful example, and left a legacy that will serve generations to come.
