Kano NYSC Coordinator Urges Corps Members to Embrace Discipline, Safety and Service.

The Kano State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Hajiya Halima AbdulKareem, has called on Corps Members deployed to the state to uphold discipline, follow due process, and embrace the values of service as they begin their one-year national assignment..

Speaking during the debriefing of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Corps Members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Kusalla Dam, Karaye Local Government Area, Hajiya AbdulKareem urged them to make the most of the lessons and experiences gained during the orientation course. She stressed that the service year would be more rewarding if Corps Members maintained discipline, respected laid-down procedures, and sought proper approvals for their activities.

She emphasized the importance of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) post-camp training, Community Development Service (CDS) projects, adherence to Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) ethics, monthly biometric clearance, and documentation at the local government level. Above all, she cautioned against unnecessary or unauthorized travels, warning that night journeys were particularly dangerous.

“Whenever it gets late, break your journey and continue the next day. Travelling at night puts your life at risk, and the Scheme will not tolerate journeys without permission,” she said.

On social media use, the Coordinator issued a stern warning to Corps Members against posting NYSC-related issues online, reminding them that the Scheme has well-established channels of communication. She also appealed to them to respect the culture and traditions of their host communities, avoid partisan politics, and never allow themselves to be used as political thugs.

The event also featured the introduction of members of the NYSC management team, Zonal Inspectors, and Local Government Inspectors who will oversee Corps Members throughout their service year.

In recognition of outstanding commitment, a commendation letter was presented to Corps Member Akubude Chinenyendu (KN/25B/0392), a Civil and Structural Engineering graduate of Near East University, Cyprus. Chinenyendu, an indigene of Anambra State, was applauded for purchasing a Public Address (PA) system for the Information and Public Relations (IPR) unit of the camp.
