NYSC DG Calls on Corps Members to Promote Religious Tolerance and National Unity – Nysc 2025
NYSC DG Calls on Corps Members to Promote Religious Tolerance and National Unity – Nysc 2025
The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has called on Corps Members across Nigeria to be strong advocates of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence..
He made this appeal while receiving the leadership of the Muslim Corpers’ Association of Nigeria (MCAN) during a courtesy visit to the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.
General Nafiu reminded the delegation that NYSC was established to help young Nigerians grow into leaders and bridge divides across culture, ethnicity, and religion. According to him, religion should serve as a unifying factor, not a dividing line.
“Use your platform to spread messages of religious tolerance, national cohesion and socio-economic development,” the NYSC DG urged the group.
He reaffirmed NYSC’s commitment to protecting the religious rights of all Corps Members and said the Scheme would continue to provide mentorship, entrepreneurship training, and guidance throughout the service year.
The DG also pledged his administration’s continued support for MCAN and its activities nationwide.
MCAN Commends NYSC and FG on Corps Allowance Increase
Earlier, the National Amir of MCAN, Abdulmalik Mahmud, praised General Nafiu for his inclusive and youth-friendly leadership style. He also commended the Federal Government and NYSC management for increasing Corps Members’ monthly allowance to ₦77,000.
Mahmud explained that MCAN coordinates the activities of Muslim Corps Members across all 36 states and the FCT, with about 40 Corps Lodges available nationwide. He emphasized that the association promotes peaceful coexistence with Corps Members of other faiths and helps sensitize its members to be good ambassadors of NYSC.
Giving Back to Society
The MCAN leader added that beyond coordinating religious activities, the association regularly visits hospitals, correctional centres, orphanages and schools to donate food items, stationery, clothing, cash and other essentials to those in need.
With this renewed call for religious tolerance, NYSC and MCAN are working together to ensure Corps Members not only serve Nigeria but also promote unity, mutual respect and national growth wherever they are posted.
