NYSC DG Commends President Tinubu for CNG Bus Initiative – Nysc 2025

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for introducing the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Bus initiative, describing it as a significant step toward easing transportation challenges and promoting cleaner energy use in Nigeria..

General Nafiu gave the commendation on Thursday at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, where he officially received a 40-seater CNG-powered bus donated to the Scheme by the Presidential Initiative for Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG) in collaboration with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

Accompanied by senior NYSC officials, the Director General thanked Pi-CNG and NNPCL for the donation and assured that the vehicle would be used effectively and maintained to high standards.

While calling for more of such buses to be deployed to NYSC formations nationwide, Nafiu noted that the vehicles would significantly ease mobility for Corps Members as they carry out their duties in fostering national unity, social integration, and grassroots development.

“This initiative will go a long way in reducing the transportation burden of our Corps Members and enhancing their contribution to economic growth across the country,” he said.

Presenting the 40-seater bus earlier, the Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pi-CNG, Barrister Ismael Ahmed, said the donation was part of President Tinubu’s commitment to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal and promote sustainable transport solutions.

The CNG initiative, launched by the Federal Government in 2023, aims to provide affordable and environmentally friendly alternatives to petrol-powered vehicles, while supporting public institutions such as the NYSC.
