“Your Service Year is a Catalyst for Nigeria’s Growth” NYSC DG to Corps Members.
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has reminded young graduates that their one year of national service is more than just a compulsory program. it is a unique opportunity to shape the future of Nigeria.
Addressing the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Corps Members at the temporary orientation camp in Obinagu, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, the DG urged them to embrace their postings with open minds and settle quickly into their host communities. According to him, the impact Corps Members make today will leave lasting memories long after their service year ends.
“Your service is a catalyst for national development,” he emphasized, encouraging them to live modestly, save diligently, and avoid questionable associations that could jeopardize their future.
General Nafiu also charged Corps Members to uphold the sanctity of the Oath of Allegiance they swore during camp. He reminded them that the NYSC scheme is built on discipline, integrity, and unity.
On the use of social media, he gave a stern warning: “Be responsible. Use these platforms to promote our values and not to spread hate or incite others. NYSC has clear communication channels..follow them.”
He further cautioned Corps Members against unauthorized travel, stressing that only the NYSC has the authority to approve movement during the service year. “Don’t abuse medical leave. If you travel without proper approval, you will be sanctioned,” he said.
Giving her situation report earlier, the Enugu State Coordinator, Mrs. Kemi Awolola, revealed that the 1,166 Corps Members in camp comprising 541 males and 625 females—have already blended into the NYSC family. She praised their dedication and strong spirit of nationalism, adding that despite their diverse backgrounds, they see themselves as one united family.
The DG’s message was clear: national service is not just about wearing the khaki; it is about leaving a footprint of impact, unity, and development in every corner of Nigeria.
