NYSC Empowers 58,933 Corps Members with Digital Skills -Nysc 2025

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has taken a big step in preparing Nigerian youths for the future. In the last two years, the scheme has trained 58,933 Corps Members in various digital and entrepreneurial skills, boosting their chances of thriving in today’s technology-driven economy..

The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, revealed this at a retreat organized by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development in Abuja. Themed “Achieving the Youth-Focused Presidential Priorities and Deliverables,” the event highlighted how government initiatives are shaping the lives of young Nigerians.

Building Digital Capacity

General Nafiu shared that as of the second quarter of 2025, about 56,013 Corps Members had already received ICT training during NYSC Orientation Camps nationwide. Through a partnership with the Enterprise Development Centre, an additional 2,920 female Corps Members were equipped with specialized digital skills.

He emphasized that these efforts align with the government’s sixth priority area, which focuses on education, health, and social investment as vital pillars of national development.

Entrepreneurship and Partnerships

NYSC’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme has also made remarkable progress. Between June 2023 and mid-2025, over 385,000 Corps Members took part in mentorship, internships, apprenticeships, and career development initiatives.
• 1,118 Corps Members received financial support to start their businesses.
• Partnerships with Access Bank, Unity Bank, Wema Bank, BATN Foundation, NNPC Foundation/Kudimata, and Activate Success continue to expand opportunities for young people.

General Nafiu stressed that these collaborations are helping to improve youth employability and provide access to income-generating ventures.

Contributions Beyond Digital Skills

The NYSC has also made significant contributions in other areas:
• Education: More than 574,000 Corps Members have been posted to schools, especially in rural areas, strengthening teaching capacity across the country.
• Health: About 38,112 Corps Members have been deployed to health facilities, again with priority for rural communities.
• Community Health: Through the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, nearly 50,000 Nigerians have benefitted from free medical outreaches.

Shared Vision for the Future

General Nafiu credited these successes to a shared vision between NYSC, the Ministry of Youth Development, and the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He reassured stakeholders that NYSC will continue to champion initiatives that empower young Nigerians and drive national development.

At the same event, the Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, applauded the progress so far. He revealed that the Ministry has trained 15,509 youths in digital skills—exceeding the initial target of 10,000.

Other achievements include:
• 97,212 youths supported in mentorship and career development (against a target of 80,000).
• 5,023 youths trained in crime reduction and peace-building.
• Over 250,000 beneficiaries recorded by the Nigerian Youth Academy (NIYA).

Minister Olawande also stressed the need to fast-track the National Youth Investment Fund to sustain the momentum of these empowerment programmes.

With digital skills, entrepreneurship support, and community-focused initiatives, the NYSC and Youth Ministry are not just preparing graduates for the labour market, they’re helping shape a more resilient, skilled, and empowered generation of Nigerians.
